Acknowledging The HEROES Among Us
WAY TO GO ROCKCORPS MAYLASIA!
Spreading the word that volunteering rocks!
Hip-hopper and beatboxer Jason Schadt believes in the power of music and the virtue of volunteerism.
So combining the two, he co-founded Rockcorps Malaysia, a pro-social production company that gives away free concert tickets to those who complete four hours of volunteer work on a Rockcorps-organised project.
Now doesn’t that concept simply rock?
Working closely with his friend to bring Rockcorps from the United States to Malaysia, Jason says, “It’s all about giving back to the community at the end of the day and about instilling positive values amongst the youth.”
One of Rockcorps’ biggest highlights was a recent project at SMK Bukit Gading at Sungai Buloh.
“The school was quite run down but with the support of the teachers and many of the students, we helped whip the school back into shape,” Jason explains.
To reward the volunteers for their hard work, Rockcorps staged a special concert during the kid’s lunch break.
Performers included Caprice, Shazet and the boys from Walawei Dance Crew. Jason explains, “It was fantastic to see everyone sitting around covered in paint and dirt watching the concert with looks of pure happiness on their faces, knowing they had each contributed to make their school a better place!”
Passionate about inculcating a sense of volunteerism among Malaysia’s youth, Jason believes that Rockcorps’ slogan ‘Give And Get Back’ (Bagi Baru Dapat) sums it up pretty nicely.
He explains, “I believe that no matter how small your contribution to society, the impact is far greater than you think, especially on your own life!”
Having just launched their latest project called the ‘100+ Volunteer Project’, Rockcorps plans to hold a massive one-day festival in January 2013 to celebrate all the good work of their volunteers.
“We will continue to promote the core message of ‘Give And Get Back’ and we hope to obtain the support of the community as well as multinational corporations and government-linked companies!”, Jason adds optimistically.
