Beijing: Hong Kong’s political crisis shifted from its city streets to an austere university lecture theatre as student protest leaders faced off with government officials in a much-anticipated televised debate after more than three weeks of an unprecedented civil disobedience campaign.

Across the city, a strong police presence looked on as thousands of protesters gathered at protest sites on Tuesday evening; enthralled at the contest beamed live on to big screens set up at the venues from outside government headquarters in Admiralty, to the gritty Kowloon district of Mong Kok.

That the talks were convened was testament to the impact the protests…

  1. What I find troubling is the failure of the “negotiations” – and the global media – to address the real driver behind the Occupy Central protests, namely high unemployment and extreme inequality in Hong Kong.

Changing the electoral system in Hong Kong is merely cosmetic – it’s not going to change its fundamental role as a global banking center, nor the extreme oppression and exploitation that goes with the vulture capitalism practiced there. If anything this facade of democracy is only going to give global capitalists license to be even more greedy and exploitative of brutally poor Hong Kong residents:

“The city of Hong Kong also has the greatest extremes of wealth and poverty in the world. The city is famous for glittering skyscrapers and luxury malls and is home to some of the world’s richest people. But half live in overcrowded and crumbling public housing. One-fifth live below the poverty line.

More than 170,000 “working poor” live in cage-like, subdivided flats. The stacked wire “dog crates” are 6 feet long by 3 feet high and wide, with 30 crates to a room. The city has no minimum wage.”

China, Hong Kong, and the bordering nations are extremely concerning as military-trade-currency-wars escalate
Sharing the awareness of the international monetary system controlling the various nation states is problematic in censored regions…
Over the years I have seen my various global dialogue efforts reach all regions with the exception of China.

I watch China, the nations in Africa, and all indigenous tribes with great concern and hope for advancing prosperity…
the controversial Canada-China FIPA (Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement) is a recent example of encroaching international corporate governance.

A corporate governance model for permanent poverty/working class apparently is a international/united nations trade monetary policy agreement.
