JP Morgan settles FX price-rigging suit; terms not disclosed

NEW YORK — JPMorgan Chase & Co has become the first bank to settle an antitrust lawsuit in which investors accused 12 major banks of rigging prices in the $5 trillion-a-day foreign exchange market.
The settlement with the largest U.S. bank was disclosed today in a letter from lawyers for JPMorgan and the plaintiffs and filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

Terms were not disclosed.
A settlement agreement is expected to be filed with the court by the end of January.

Belarus has twisted the knife into Moscow as the ruble continues to plummet.
“Minsk has demanded payment for future transactions in dollars or euros rather than rubles, according to state media agency Belta. ”

Belarus blocked online stores and news websites Sunday, in an apparent attempt to stop a run on banks and shops as people rushed to secure their savings.

“”The defense ministers of Kazakhstan and Belarus have approved a plan of cooperation for the next year.
The document defines the further steps to enhance cooperation in military and military-technical spheres, as well as in education and training areas.
Imangali Tasmagambetov and Andrei Ravkov believe in the need to strengthen cooperation in the defense sector.”

numbers from the Swift system show that the yuan, which in January 2012 held only 1.89% of trade transactions, jumped to 8.66% surpassing the Euro, which has fallen to just 6.64% of Swift transactions. In January 2012, the Euro held 7.87% of Swift transactions. These numbers show that the Euro is on its way to a third world country status.
